BRIAN TOROSIAN, Classical Guitarist
Brian is an active soloist and chamber musician on guitar, lute, and mandolin. In addition to completing bachelor, masters and doctoral studies at Northwestern University in guitar performance and composition, Brian studied at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy. Brian also concertizes on replicas of a Baroque guitar, a Terz guitar, and a 10-string guitar, the latter two made for him by Richard Bruné after rare mid-19th-century Viennese instruments. Concert performances include appearances with Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Grant Park Symphony, Chicago Opera Theater, Ensemble Español, Concert Dance Inc., Waller and Maxwell Duo, His Majesties Clerkes, Ars Musica Chicago, North Suburban Symphony, and Classical Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Torosian serves on the faculty at DePaul University and directs the guitar program of NEIU, where he recently received an Instructor Excellence Award. Torosian's published editions include the first two of five volumes of J. K. Mertz's complete prodigious Opern-Revue, an anthology of operatic concert works entitled Selected Operatic Fantasies of Mertz (Mel Bay Publications).
LYON LEIFER,
Flutist
Mr. Leifer is recognized in Europe, the Americas, China and India as a master flutist who performs both on western flutes and on the bansuri (north Indian keyless bamboo flute). He resigned his position in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra to accept a Fulbright to study Hindustani classical music. Remaining in India for five years, Mr. Leifer won praise for his lively and authentic renditions of raga melodies. Mr. Leifer has became one of Chicago's leading flutists and flute teachers. He gives recitals on Western flutes and performs as principal flutist in the Ars Viva Orchestra. He teaches flute at NEIU and Moody Bible Institute. He has performed Indian music at Symphony Center in Chicago, Millennium Park, numerous universities, as well as conventions of the National Flute Association and the British Flute Society. He has broadcast Indian music on radio stations WFMT, WBEZ and WHPK. Mr. Leifer has also given many recitals of Western classical flute repertory. His recording of Bloch's "Suite Modale" for flute and strings has received national attention and frequent airplay. He has received numerous awards throughout his career including grants from the Illinois Arts Council, Chicago Artists Abroad, and a 2005-06 Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship
SYLVIA MYINTOO, Violinist
performs in the Chicago area appearing with artists
from Andrea Bocelli to Seal. She has played with the Chicago land
pops orchestra, and has been recorded on both WTTW soundstage, and the Oprah Winfrey show. She also performs with the Ken Arlen
Orchestra in addition to her teaching at Northeastern Illinois
University. Dame Libby, the Ensemble Español and Northeastern Illinois University welcome Ms. Myintoo to the company and the American Spanish Dance Festival.
