Company Dancer (on leave)
Alejandra was born in Puerto Natales, Chile. At age seven, she moved to Chicago with her family. She began her formal dance studies with Dame Libby Komaiko in the fall 1989, and has since then studied with Juan Ramon, Irma Suarez Ruiz, Paco Alonso, Manolo Rivera, Vida Peral, and Azucena Vega, and Modern dance with Venetia Stifler and Kelly Michaels. Alejandra received an NEIU Talent scholarship from the department of music & the dance program at Northeastern Illinois University. She was awarded a scholarship apprenticeship to the E.E.S.D.T. in January 1991 and in July 1992 was promoted to Full Company Dancer. She has performed and toured with the company nationally and internationally since 1992, and appeared as a guest artist in the Chicago Human Rhythm Project’s World Festival of Tap and Percussive Dance. Alejandra received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University in 1995 and went on to teach at the Frederick Funston School. She recently completed her Masters degree from National Louis University in Curriculum and Instruction and achieved National Boards Certification in Special Education. Alejandra and her husband Bonar, are the proud parents of Sofia Lola and Diego. She is very excited to be back and dancing with Ensemble Español again.
