elcome to the summer's "Must See" event, the annual American Spanish Dance & Music Festival presented by the Ensemble Español Center for Spanish Dance & Music in residence at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), Chicago, now celebrating their 35th Anniversary. Founded by artistic director, Dame Libby Komaiko, the festival hosts the cast of 40 sensational dancers, singers, musicians, and guest artists who bring the magic of Spain to Chicago through their exciting fusion of traditional, classical, folkloric, Flamenco, and dramatic theatrical productions.
The Festival features gala concerts with U.S. and company world premiers beginning with the Duende Flamenco Music & Dance Concert at the beautiful auditorium of Northeastern Illinois University on Thursday, June 16 at 7:30pm and Flamenco Passion Gala Concerts at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie on June 24 & 25 at 7:30pm and June 26 at 3:00pm. A comprehensive series of 54 master classes and workshops in the neoclassical, clásico Español, regional/folkloric and Flamenco styles of dance, music, vocals, guitar, & percussion, at NEIU dance studios will be presented on June 17 - 23. The festival course is available for undergraduate and graduate credit or non-credit. Company costume exhibits & Meet the Artists sessions are also part of the activities.
Don't miss the company's critically acclaimed Bolero along with world premiers by our stellar cast of guest artists; Carmela Greco, Christian Lozano and Paloma Gomez former principals of the National Ballet of Spain.
