About Abigail Ventura
Abigail Ventura is of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent, and began studying Spanish Dance in the After School Matters Spanish Dance Program under the artistic leadership of Julia Hinojosa at Northeastern Illinois University in 2009.
Soon after, Abigail auditioned for the Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Youth Company, and has since studied with Dame Libby Komaiko, Irma Suárez Ruiz, Jorge Pérez, Sara Samuels, Julia Hinojosa, Carmela Greco, Paloma Gomez, Christian Lozano and ballet with Anna Czjaun. She has also studied ballet, lyrical, step and tango.
At Northeastern Illinois University, she studied with Venetia Stifler, Rachael Burton, Jaime Ferrell and Victor Alexander. Abigail is a recipient of the Brommel-Komaiko-Pérez Scholarship, and a recipient of the Music Department and Dance Program scholarship at Northeastern Illinois University.
Abigail represented NEIU at the College Dance Festival in 2012 and 2013, as a performer. In 2012, she traveled to Spain to study with Flamenco masters. She is now full company dancer, and teaches with the After School Matters Programs for the Ensemble Español.
