About Brian Torosian

Brian Torosian is an Instructor in the Department of Music. He directs guitar studies at NEIU for music majors and minors, and teaches a guitar class (Class Guitar MUS120) which is open to all university students. Dr. Torosian is coordinator and music module instructor for the UHP class Honors Introduction to the Arts (ZHON191). His Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees were all completed at Northwestern University, and Brian studied for three summers in Italy at Accademia Musicale Chigiana where he earned the diploma of merit.

His recordings are available on CD, and included are collections of J.K. Mertz’s (1840-56) guitar and piano duos. Given the present date, Brian is centuries behind the times. In addition to standard six-string guitar, he plays baroque guitar, Terz guitar, and 10-string guitar replicas, the latter two made for him after 19th-century Viennese instruments. Concert performances include numerous appearances with Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Grant Park Symphony, and Chicago Opera Theater.
Brian is an avid Blackhawks fan, and also a fan of Honors students who are fans of other NHL teams.
