About Crystal Ruiz
Crystal Ruiz was born and raised in Cicero, Illinois. She began her formal Spanish dance training as a young child, and first performed with the Ensemble Español at age four. She was a member of the organization’s Youth Company, and became a Company Dancer in 2003.
In 2012, she became Rehearsal Assistant to the professional company. She studied at the prestigious Amor de Dios Flamenco Dance Academy in Madrid, Spain. Her dance teachers include Juan Mata, Ana Gonzalez, Paloma Gomez, Raquel Gomez, and many others. She performs nationally and internationally with the Ensemble Español, and has been showcased in Paloma Gomez’ Nuevamente Vivir, which was performed at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival’s Inside/Out Series (2015). She has collaborated with fellow dancers, and these choreographies include Anhelo del Alma and Deshojando Flores. She rehearses and teaches the Ensemble Español’s Youth Company – Junior Division, and has taught various After School Matters residencies throughout Chicago.
She is a graduate of Northwestern University, and has a master’s in Child Development from the Erikson Institute. She is the proud mother of her young daughter, Emily.
