About Ismael Fernández
Described by The Washington Post as the "most charismatic artist", Ismael Fernández was born in Seville to a gypsy family and grew up performing at flamenco festivals around the world with his family, "La Familia Fernández", internationally renowned. His career began in the best flamenco tablaos in Spain such as Tablao El Cordobés in Barcelona, La Carbonería in Seville and some of the best known flamenco caves in Granada.
In 2004, Ismael Fernández won the National Contest of Córdoba singing for bulerías for the dancer Soraya Clavijo and that same year he was finalist in the International Festival of Cante de la Unión. He has participated several times in the Flamenco Biennial of Seville forming a show with his family. Throughout his career, Ismael has worked with flamenco legends such as Antonio Canales, Farruquito, Marina Heredia, El Torombo, the prestigious conductor Gustavo Dudamel and Rafaela Carrasco, among many others.
For several years, Ismael has been a member of the company of the acclaimed dancer Maria Pagés, performing at The Joyce Theater (New York), Sadler Wells Theater (London), Esplanade Theater (Singapore), Orchard Hall and Bunka Mura (Japan), La Zarzuela Theater (Madrid), Teatro Real (Madrid), and the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona).
He currently resides in New York, where he moved in 2014 along with flamenco dancer Sonia Olla, his partner on and off stage. Since then, he combines singing lessons with performance in internationally renowned venues such as the New York City Center, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Washington DC), Carnegie Hall (NY), Walt Disney Concert Hall (LA ). He created a lot of shows along with Sonia, such as ‘Tablao Sevilla’, ‘Entretiempo’, ‘Tiempo Al Aire’ and ‘Por los Caminos’.
Ismael has made several appearances on radio and television, among which "NYC Arts" (PBS), Tele5, National Radio of Spain, Cadena Ser, Punto Radio and Onda Cero stand out.
This singer worked with Madonna in preparation for her «Rebel Heart Tour» (2015-2016), where his voice can be heard during «La Isla Bonita».
