About Julia Hinojosa
JULIA HINOJOSA, Principal Dancer and Artistic Director of the Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Youth Company, was born and raised in Chicago. Julia began her Spanish dance studies in 2000 with Dame Libby Komaiko, and became a Company Dancer in 2005. She has studied in Madrid, Spain at the Amor de Dios Flamenco Dance Academy, and she studied extensively with Paloma Gomez, Raquel Gomez, Juan Mata, Ana Gonzalez, and Carmela Greco. She was featured in Paloma Gomez’s Nuevamente Vivir, and as a leading role in Ron De Jesus’ Mil Clavos in 2014. Julia performed her choreography Ensueños de mi Caribe at the Museum of Contemporary Art as part of the 2013 Chicago Dancing Festival. She became a full-time dancer in 2014, and coordinates and teaches for the Ensemble Español’s educational outreach programs at schools throughout Chicago. She graduated with honors from Northeastern Illinois University with a degree in English, and a minor in Dance, studying ballet, modern and jazz.
She earned a master’s degree from Columbia College in Arts Management. Julia was awarded the 2017 Chicago Negocios Now 40 Under 40 Chicago Issue.
