About Leonard Perez
LEONARD PEREZ, Company Dancer, originally from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, began his dance training in ballroom dance at Kelvyn Park High School. In 2009, he started his formal Spanish dance training while participating in an Ensemble Espanol residency program at Steinmetz High School with Irma Suarez Ruiz.
He joined the Ensemble’s Youth Company in 2010, and became an apprentice to the professional company shortly after. He was promoted to Company Dancer in 2012. Leonard studied ballet, modern and jazz while on scholarship at NEIU with Venetia Stifler, Rachael Burton, Jamie Ferrell and Victor Alexander. Leonard traveled to Madrid, Spain in 2012 with the Ensemble’s Youth Company to study with artists Carmela Greco, Maria Torres and Paloma Gomez at the Botica del Arte Dance Studio.
He represented NEIU at the American College Dance Festival and has participated in summer intensive workshops at Dance Theater of Harlem, The Ailey School, River North Dance Chicago, Thodos Dance Chicago, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, and The Ruth Page School of Dance. Leonard also danced the solo role of the Nutcracker Prince in the Civic Ballet’s The Nutcracker in 2011. He was a member of the Milwaukee Ballet II performing in the 2015-16 season productions of Dracula and The Nutcracker, and is currently a dancer with the Dayton Ohio Ballet. Leonard traveled to Havana (Cuba) for the Encuentro Internacional de Academias 2017 dance intensive.
