About Luis Galvez
Luis Antonio Galvez-Alcantara, Tenor, is a native of Lima, Peru. He is the possessor of a dark, full-bodied lyric voice, and has become one of the most sought after tenors in the Chicago area. He was recently invited to perform at the Vatican in Rome, Italy. His operatic roles have included Don Jose in Carmen, Rodolfo in La Boheme, Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly and Alfred in Die Fledermaus. He has performed throughout the United States, and upcoming events include a recital of American music, by composer from Floyd Thompson at Sherwood Conservatory of Music; Peruvian Independence Day celebrations at the Daley Center; as guest soloist in Lincoln Cathedral, England; and tenor soloist with Bach and Beyond, Chicago in Handel’s Creation. Luis is a founding member and the executive director of the North Shore Opera Hour – Where music and passion meet! This new performance group premiered at Christ Church, Winnetka with scenes from Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. Luis has received the most distinguished award offered by the Association of Peruvian Institutions in the U.S. and Canada for his excellence and commitment to the Peruvian community and as a valuable contributor to promoting cultural diversity. He is a graduate of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, where he is on the voice faculty of the Theatre Conservatory. He is also a faculty member of Sherwood Conservatory of Music. Luis has been performing with Dame Libby and the Ensemble Español since 1999.
