About Michelle Mouhelis
Michelle Mouhelis is a High School Spanish Teacher for District 211. She developed a passion for the Spanish language and culture when studying Spanish in high school, and decided to pursue teaching, earning her Master’s Degree in Education. Prior to her career in teaching, she danced ballet professionally, performing with Ballet Chicago and Milwaukee Ballet. She also danced multiple roles in Ruth Page’s Nutcracker in Chicago.
As an adult, when Michelle began learning Flamenco and Spanish Dance from Rosa Maria Cello at Harper College, she was truly inspired by the beauty of the art form and has continued to take the community dance workshops at NEIU with Irma Ruiz and from guest artists of the American Spanish Dance Festival. Her love of dance and youth has led her to teach Spanish dance workshops (and ballet) for the Judith Svalander School of Ballet, Performing Arts of Spring Grove and the Center for Ballroom and Dance.
Michelle feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to train to become a dancer and wants to help give aspiring young artists that same chance to pursue their passion. Thus, she is delighted to serve on the EEYC Board to help support this cause.
